Convergence Zone Cellars with owner/winemaker Scott Greenberg

Tasting fee: $2.00 Waived with purchase of any featured selection and for all Wine Club Members.

We are a family-owned and operated winery located in the Puget Sound Convergence Zone located in Woodinville’s Warehouse District. Grapes from some of Washington’s best vineyards in the Red Mountain, Yakima Valley and Columbia Valley areas are vinted and blended by winemaker Scott Greenberg into award-winning small production, premium quality wines. Our 2011 production was 600 cases (up from 140 cases in 2008). Our tasting room is open Noon-5:00 pm on Saturdays and Sundays and for special events. We invite you to join our e-mail list, become our Facebook fan, follow us on Twitter or Yelp, or see what we’re doing on Flickr.

We are often asked “what is a convergence zone”? First, it’s a weather phenomenon in the Puget Sound area, and our winery is in the middle of the CZ. Here is a good article on the convergence zone. “Zone” is also a city planning term--residential zone, commercial zone, industrial zone, etc. Since Scott is a city planner (“the job that supports the winery”) we thought it was only fitting to create a “convergence zone” bringing together city planning and wine. Finally, it means a convergence of different grapes, vineyards and winemaking styles to produce drinkable, ageable, aromatic, palate-pleasing and long-finishing wines.

Blind Red Wine Tasting

Tasting fee: $2.00 Waived with purchase of any featured selection and for all Wine Club Members.

Okay, so we really don’t blindfold you for this tasting.  However, we do cover-up the wines so you can’t see what your tasting.  In fact, we don’t tell you anything at all about the wine except it is red.  No price.  No label!  No origin!  Nothing! Nada!

Blind tastings are a great learning experience about wine.  When you don’t know how much a wine costs or what the label looks like or from where it comes, you must rely solely on your senses of smell, sight and taste to determine whether you like the wine or not.

These tastings are always great fun and you just might learn a thing or two about what wines you really like.

’37 Cellars with owner/winemaker Frank Dechaine

Tasting fee: $2.00 Waived with purchase of any featured selection and for all Wine Club Members.

’37 Cellars came about when Chuck and I,  two brothers-in-law, decided that we wanted to make our own ultra-premium, hand-crafted wine so that we could enjoy more of it and share it with friends. After a couple of years of doing this, our passion and desire to make more wine and make it available to other people led to the formation of a new Washington State winery  called ’37 Cellars.

The name ’37 Cellars took a long time to come about.  We both  enjoy playing guitar and both are fortunate in owning old Martin vintage guitars. As the name suggests, we are very fortunate as we both have 1937 Martin guitars.

1937 was one of the four years that the C. F. Martin Guitar Company produced instruments that have been known since as the “Holy Grails” of acoustic flat top guitars, the finest ever made. In naming our winery ’37 Cellars, we pay homage to the Golden Era of guitar making.

It is our intention to handcraft the best possible wine by adhering to the same level of detail and excellence as the master guitar makers of the past.

We hope you will enjoy our wines as much as we do!

Kiona Cellars

Tasting fee: $2.00 Waived with purchase of any featured selection and for all Wine Club Members.

As far as John Williams and Jim Holmes were concerned, the plan was perfect. It was an 84-acre patch of desolate sagebrush and cheatgrass nestled between Red Mountain and the Yakima River. They did their research, of course, and as far as they could tell, the area was perfect for growing grapes. It had south-facing slopes, incredible hezel silt loam soil, and temperate sunny weather conditions. It didn’t matter that they had to bring electricity in from 3 miles away or dig a well on their own dime. They were going to plant a vineyard, and it was going to be good.

“We’d researched it and knew there was water about some 500 feet deep. We were at 550 feet and close to the end of our cash, and we hadn’t hit water yet, and the well driller asked us how far we wanted to go. We asked, how much money have we got left? We drilled about five more feet and hit the water.”

  1. -John Williams

  2. -

Turns out it was a great decision to drill just a little further. With the water now flowing, the partners decided to go ahead and plant four acres each of three classic varieties – Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, and Riesling. Employing what one of John’s children would jokingly call “slave child labor” more than 30 years later, the first grapes were planted on Red Mountain in 1975. The first fruit was ready in 1978, but only two years would pass before Kiona Vineyards became Kiona Vineyards and Winery and produced the first wine under the name in 1980.

Since then, Kiona has grown from a basement/garage operation to one of the premier wineries in the United States. Wine Spectator has placed two of Kiona’s wines on its prestigious “100 Best Wines” list and the Williams’ were among the inductees into the “Legends of Washington Wine” Hall of Fame in only its second year in existence.

Although Jim Holmes moved on to manage his own vineyard on Red Mountain, the Williams family still tends to their perpetually expanding winery and over 300 acres of vineyards, never forgetting to enjoy plenty of wine along the way!

Jones of Washington

Tasting fee: $2.00 Waived with purchase of any featured selection and for all Wine Club Members.

Jones of Washington is a family owned and operated winery that is committed to small-batch artisanal wines crafted with all the love and attention that people who are closely tied to the land can make.

Jack Jones moved to the Columbia Valley as a child in the early 1950’s.He worked the land as a youth, becoming familiar with the geography and the climate. Subsequently, He began farming as a young man growing grains, forages, potatoes and the like. Throughout Jack’s farming career he always harbored an interest for fruits and vines. He satisfied his fruit curiosity by starting orchards in the early 1980’s. It wasn’t until the early 1990’s that he pursued wine grape growing with a passion. Jack is now recognized as a premier grower, both for magnitude and most importantly quality, in all of Washington State.

So remember, the next time you share one of the classic blends from the Jones of Washington Vineyard, there is over 50 years of experience behind it from Jack and his unique relationship with the land of the Columbia Valley.

JM Cellars

Tasting fee: $2.00 Waived with purchase of any featured selection and for all Wine Club Members.

JM Cellars is a family-owned winery in Woodinville, Washington working in partnership with a diverse collection of the Columbia Valley’s best vineyards to produce high quality wines styled for balance, power, dimension and finesse. Best known for blended reds (we make four), many regard Tre (formerly Tre Fanciulli) as JM Cellars’ “signature” wine.

Prior to starting JM Cellars with his wife Peggy, John Bigelow worked in the technology sector. His family generally understood what he did for a living but it strayed from his desire to create a more tangible work environment that he could share with them. With the winery now a reality, both John and Peggy point to their purple-stained hands as tangible proof of John’s vision, a reality he says wouldn’t have been possible without family. He is quick to thank Peggy for her amazing enthusiasm and drive, his sons’ understanding when harvest has kept him from their soccer or football games and the hours of “sitting” logged by their grandparents. It takes more than great grapes to build a winery, it takes a family.

Palouse Winery

w/ winemaker George Kirkish

Tasting fee: $2.00 Waived with purchase of any featured selection and for all Wine Club Members.

Situated conveniently on Vashon Island's north end, our pocket winery is easily accessible, right on the main highway, just a mile from the ferry dock. Once you're here, enjoy spectacular views of Colvos Passage and the Olympic mountains while sampling some of the Northwest's finest award winning wines.

Since 2003 we have handcrafted limited quantity wines of the highest quality, ensuring every step of the wine making process is conducted to the highest standards. As with all wines the secret lies within the grapes. We are very fortunate to know Paul & Marilyn Portteus of Portteus Vineyards, one of the oldest vineyards in Washington. Located high in the Rattlesnake Hills, Portteus Vineyards is well known for producing some of the Pacific Northwest's best grapes.

George & Linda are a winemaking team and have been recognized as the "Best Puget Sound Winery", and one of the "Best 15 winemakers in Washington State".  Their passion is to make great wines, meet new friends, and embrace life day to day.

The entire wine making process is done on site, from the crush to the bottling and sale. Our wines are aged in 100% French oak barrels, imparting subtle vanilla, spice and butter flavors. Once bottled by hand, we modernized in 2007 and now utilize Bella, our bottling machine which bottles 40 cases in an hour, saving us hours of agonizing labor!

As we are a family operation we are family-friendly and welcome your family members whether two legged or four legged and in need of a treat or two. If you plan on exploring our island by bicycle we are also bike-friendly so stop in for a refreshing water, relax on the patio, take in the view and have a taste of a current vintage. It makes for a perfect day!
